1. Introduction
The SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM is designed for outstanding female students who wish to pursue a full-time master’s degree in STEM fields in Sweden. This initiative, managed by the Swedish Institute (SI), aims to promote gender diversity and leadership in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), while also contributing to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Through this scholarship, SI seeks to build a network of global female leaders, who will drive progress in their home countries and within their respective STEM fields.
2. Key Dates for the Application Process
- Application Period:
October 15, 2024 – January 15, 2025: Apply to Swedish master’s programs via University Admissions. - Supporting Documents Deadline:
February 3, 2025: Deadline to submit required documents and pay the application fee. - Admissions Results:
March 27, 2025: Announcement of admissions results. - Scholarship Results:
April 24, 2025: SI Scholarship recipients announced.
3. Scholarship Coverage and Benefits
The SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM is a fully funded program that provides the following:
- Full Tuition Coverage:
SI pays the tuition directly to the university at the beginning of each semester. - Monthly Stipend:
SEK 12,000 per month to cover living expenses throughout your studies. - Travel Grant:
SEK 15,000 one-time payment to cover travel costs. (Not applicable to students already residing in Sweden.) - Membership in the SI Network for Future Global Professionals (NFGP):
This network provides opportunities for professional growth and networking while studying in Sweden. - Alumni Network Access:
Upon completion, scholars gain access to the SI Alumni Network for continued career support and global networking.
The scholarship does not include:
- Insurance coverage. (Check with your university for details on insurance for international students.)
- Additional funds for family members.
- Application fee for University Admissions.
- Changes to the study program or scholarship extension.
4. Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship:
You must be a female citizen of one of the following countries: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam. - Education Background:
Applicants must be admitted to a designated master’s program in Sweden (list of programs available from November 1, 2024). - Previous Education or Residence in Sweden:
You are not eligible if you have already received an SI Scholarship or hold a degree from a Swedish university. - Dual Citizenship:
Applicants with dual citizenship must choose one citizenship when applying. Multiple applications will result in disqualification. - Other Ineligibility Factors:
Individuals with Swedish or EU/EEA citizenship, a Swedish permanent residence permit, or a work/residence permit based on family ties are not eligible.
5. Application Process
The application process for the SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM involves several steps:
- Apply to Swedish Master’s Programs:
Submit your application to University Admissions (October 15, 2024 – January 15, 2025). Visit University Admissions. - Submit Required Documents:
Ensure all necessary documents are submitted by February 3, 2025, including proof of previous education, identification, and language proficiency (if applicable). - Pay Application Fee:
The non-refundable fee must be paid by February 3, 2025. - Wait for Admission Results:
University Admissions will announce results on March 27, 2025. - Scholarship Application Submission:
Once admitted to a master’s program, complete the scholarship application on the SI online platform before April 24, 2025.
6. Designated Master’s Programs
The scholarship applies to specific English-taught master’s programs in Sweden that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). A comprehensive list of eligible programs will be available on November 1, 2024.
7. Important Notes
- Changes to the study program or scholarship period are not permitted after receiving the scholarship.
- Ensure all documents submitted are accurate and complete.
- Scholarship awards are highly competitive, so meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee acceptance.
