The prestigious Young Writers Awards 2024-2025 invites students in grades 9 through 12, or their international equivalents, to showcase their literary talents. This competition offers young writers from around the world a unique platform to express themselves through poetry, fiction, or nonfiction. It’s your chance to have your work recognized and published!

1. Submission Categories
Students may submit their work in one of the following categories by the November 1 deadline:
- Poetry: Submit three poems of any length. Poems must be typed, and each page should clearly display the author’s name.
- Fiction: Submit a short story, typed and double-spaced, with a maximum of 1,500 words. Each page should clearly display the author’s name.
- Nonfiction: Submit a personal or academic essay, typed and double-spaced, with a maximum of 1,500 words. Each page should clearly display the author’s name.
2. Eligibility Criteria
- Open to students currently enrolled in grades 9-12, or international equivalents.
- Both U.S. and international students are eligible.
- All entries must be original and submitted in English.
- Each entry must be reviewed, approved, and sponsored by a high school teacher or mentor (including homeschooled students).
- Students taking a gap year after graduating high school are not eligible.
3. Submission Guidelines
- Submit your entry by November 1.
- Only one category submission per student is allowed.
- Ensure all entries are original and unpublished elsewhere.
4. Benefits
- Winning entries will be published on the Bennington College website under the Newsroom and Young Writers sections.
- There may be potential for publication in local newspapers or magazines upon media request.
- Authors retain all other copyrights to their work.
